Just another so Good to be true news update about salary increase, Duterte promises teachers’ salary hike will be more than 30K.
Amid calls to raise the salaries of teachers in the country, the President assured that the hike order is in the works.
President Rodrigo Duterte said Sunday he is expecting a wage hike for teachers higher than that of members of the Philippine National Police, whose salaries doubled in 2018.
“It’s coming, ang increases nila but hindi double. Mas marami ang teacher. Nandiyan po dadating ‘yan,” he told the press upon arriving from a five-day visit to Russia.
[Translation: Their increases are coming. The teachers will have more. It is coming.]
Asked on how much the teachers would receive, he said the government discussed raising it to P35,000 or more.
“I think it’s about… the last time discussing, 35. It could be more. I don’t know,” he added.
However, he did not give a timeline for the order.
This comes after protests staged in schools on World Teacher’s Day on Saturday, asking to increase public school educators’ salaries to ₱30,000.
Data from the Department of Education shows the average teacher earns ₱20,754 to ₱25,232 monthly.
